Race Wish List!

Posted on

wishlist

Races are my love, they keep me going, they keep me with a goal in sight and something to train for.  So! I’ve started making a race list which I will eventually transfer over to its own page.  Since I definitely won’t be able to do all these races this year (they get kinda pricey when you throw travel into the mix) this list will be for this year and next year and probably the years after as well.  Most of them are the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon series, they are fun and easy races to find.  As I find more, I’ll be adding them to my race calendar along with Triathlons once I can figure out the means to get myself a bike!

July 21 – Chicago (Half) Rock ‘n’ Roll (RNR)

September 1 – Virginia Beach RNR (Half)

September 15 – Philadelphia RNR (Half)

October 20 – Denver Colorado RNR (Full)

October 28 – Marine Corps DC (Full)

November 9 – Savannah Georgia RNR (Full)

November 17 –  LasVegas RNR (Half or Full)

January 9 – 12 2014 – Disney’s Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, Half & Full)

January 18, 2014 – Louisiana Marathon (Half or Full)

February 24, 2014 – Disney Princess Half Marathon

December 14, 2014 – Honolulu Marathon (Full)

Workout Regime & Playlist

Posted on

Over the past year I have played around a lot with trying different workouts and what not.  I used to be an avid gym rat, but then after tightening my finances, I quit the gym and was forced to get creative.

First of all, I am the type of person who can definitely get bored very easily, so I knew I had to get a few things together for myself to fight off boredom and make me stick to it.   Also I needed something to keep myself challenged.

So here is what my play-list is consisting of these days:

The Time - Black Eyed Peas
Fancy Footwork - Chromeo
Like a G6 - Far East Movement
Waiting for the End - Linkin Park
Beggin' - Madcon
Name of the Game - The Crystal Method
Keep Hope Alive - The Crystal Method
Forever Young - Alphaville
Block Rockin Beats - The Chemical Brothers
Candyman - Christina Aguilera
Mint Car - The Cure
And Be Loved - Damian Marley
Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant
Man in Motion - From St. Elmos Fire
Dog Days are Over - Florence and the Machine
The Big Bang - Rock Mafia
On the Floor - Jennifer Lopez
Hold it Against Me - Britney Spears
Power - Kanye West
Coming Home - Diddy - Dirty Money
Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z & Alicia Keys

It changes a bit but for the most part I like to listen to pop music as it keeps me upbeat and pepped up.  But if I am doing sprint intervals then I need some heavy metal angry music to keep me really amped up and adrenaline pumping.

Lately I have been working on getting back my endurance and cardio since I was on about a 3 month hiatus from all working out because of the job that I had.  I just didnt have time or desire to work out.  Chock it up to being unhappy, winter time, and my schedule kept changing.  In any case, I am so happy to be back to working out, I have a lot of work to do, but I love running!! (well side secret… shhh… I hate having to start back running… meaning being off from running and then starting again…ugghhhh so hard!! Lol)

So I have been thinking about starting a training page on here…. but my workouts are so not consistent at this point that it would be a bit pointless.  I haven’t set up a training plan yet, at this point its more whatever I have the energy for.  Once I get my endurance back up I’ll see about setting up a training plan like I had in the fall and then post it on here for those who may be interested in getting some motivation!

Hope you enjoy my playlist!! I really wanted to upload an mp3 player on here, but I’m not quite that tech savvy soooo instead I just posted the names of the songs 🙂

HAPPY WEEKEND!!

Fueling your body for running, vegan style!!

I have recently gotten more serious about running which has been awesome!  Before I really only ran on a treadmill for about 30 minutes, which yes is still running but it doesn’t push you very hard, unless you change the incline which I never really did.

So, running… I have a love hate relationship with it.  I love how awesome I feel after my run, and I especially love when I have those awesome runs where you just feel like you could run for hours and hours and feel light as air… however, I am finding that those types of runs don’t happen every day which is annoying.  I keep trying to figure out what makes those types of runs happen, so far I got nothin.

Today’s run was odd, my legs felt awesome, felt like I could keep running for hours, however my lungs not so much.  I felt like I couldn’t quite get a deep breath.  One of these days I will get it all figured out and find just the right routine, at least thats what I keep telling myself.   Perhaps I should work more on my meditation and breathing….

Before I went on my run I made myself this awesome concoction:

Pre-Workout Hydration Energy Smoothie

1 cup coconut water

1 tsp maca cocoa powder (or just plain maca)

1 Tbsp chia seeds

1 frozen banana

1 scoop Amazing Grass wheatgrass powder

 2 handfuls spinach (or kale)

   Blend together in blender

(I forgot to include the Amazing Grass Wheatgrass powder in both the photo and my smoothie this morning, oops! think I got a lil excited about taking the photo)

I love this smoothie because it energizes you for your run as well as hydrates you for your run!   The coconut water in it is amazing for both before and after your run because it is a natural electrolyte.  Ever since I discovered coconut water I can never go back to those sugar filled sports drinks like gatorade or propel.  Also chia seeds are hydrating and packed with protein!  They also thicken smoothies up (and any other type of liquid) if you let it sit in the fridge for about 15 minutes.  The maca also adds a big bang of energy!! Woohoo!!

Check out what I saw on while out on my run…
